一篇2018 年1 月發表於美國醫學期刊JAMA 的研究指出 (JAMA Psychiatry. January 3, 2018.)，自閉症類群障礙 (Autistic Spectrum Disorder，ASD) 的研究顯示，經由觀察統計懷孕婦女於懷孕前或懷孕期，使用葉酸 (folic acid) /或綜合維生素補充品 (multivitamin supplements)，其後代出現自閉症障礙ASD 風險之間的關連性。【400~600微克】每日建議補充葉酸的劑量

【白斑症】又稱Vitiligo，係一種色素失調疾病。葉酸也是治療的維他命。
【作用機轉】白癜風(白斑症Vitiligo)是一種後天罹患的皮膚色素失調障礙。白癜風(白斑症)的確切發病機制尚未完全了解。白斑症患者體內的維生素B12和葉酸水平偏低，此兩種維生素是同型半胱氨酸（Hcy）代謝所需的重要輔助因子。因此，同型半胱氨酸Hcy水平在循環中增加。由於Hcy的增加，可能破壞皮膚黑素細胞導致白斑症的出現。
